Since January ABB in Poland has been using the PS module for comprehensive project management. The advanced SAP solution, based on Project System (PS) module, was prepared by SAP competence center of ABB and BCC.
In order to optimize project management ABB decided to create a solution that would support organization and settling the production based on advanced SAP functions in SAP PS (Project System). The project, which lasted almost a year, was carried out by ABB specialists and BCC consultants.
PS module was used in plants which produce and deliver ship equipment, produce large power transformers and low-voltage switch gear. Every project is custom-made for each client and is very complex both in terms of the product itself and the project management process.
The solution created supports the whole of project operations both in terms of finance, reporting and logistic processes.
”Currently ABB employees are using the system in cost management in all the project cycle: from cost calculation of the future commission and placing an order, through settling component costs and sales and service. For commissions with a very long cycle it is particularly useful to model the cost settlement process in time in SAP. SAP PS module helps us constantly monitor the profitability of particular commissions” , says Mariusz Pietrzkowicz, SAP Competence Center Director at ABB in Poland.
Krzysztof Siwiec, project manager for BCC, comments: ”Most companies using SAP PS solutions just use financial functions. ABB has gone much further, as its system also supports logistic processes in project operations, including organizing purchase and planning production processes. Creating project production schedule in SAP helps take more advantage of company’s resources”.
New solutions have been started according to regulations followed by ABB, which result from Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). This ensures meeting high demands in internal control efficiency.
