From industrial to artistic glass: BCC implements SAP ERP at Krosno Group

August marks the start of a comprehensive SAP ERP implementation in three units of the Krosno Group.

The implementation includes the following companies: Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed KROSNO SA Glass Works, Krosglass SA, created on the basis of Glass Fibre Plant and Utility Glass Works TARNÓW SA.

The project’s aim is to increase the efficiency of the whole group. No unit of the Group has a fully integrated ERP system and, with time, managing a set of scattered applications got more and more difficult and time-consuming. Implementing SAP ERP will help consolidate information on the company’s vital processes and ensure quicker access to key management information.

The system will support various types of manufacture, including the very characteristic ones. Besides the manufacture of mechanically-formed utility glass (mainly glasses, vases, wine glasses, candleholders, jars), to industrial glass (sodium pipes and glass fibre), SAP ERP will also handle the manufacture of traditionally hand-made utility and decorative articles according to craft rules known for centuries.

‘We have decided to implement the SAP system which is a leading and constantly developed ERP standard, ensuring the expected flexibility and wide possibilities of development. On the other hand, when looking for an implementation partner, we took into account experience in complex industrial projects, with particular focus on non-standard and complicated production processes’, said Roland Szałowski, controlling director at KROSNO SA.

The project will include the following SAP functionalities:

  • finance and fixed assets accounting
  • controlling and treasury
  • material management
  • production planning
  • sales and distribution
  • human resources management

The contract will also cover the sale of SAP licence to the Krosno Group as well as delivery of hardware and system platforms. The system’s productive start is scheduled for June 2008.

After winning another client from Podkarpacie region, BCC has strengthened its position of a leader in SAP services in the South-Eastern Poland. Its clients there include WSK Rzeszów, Van Pur brewery, Kamax Mechanical Plant, WSK PZL Rzeszów, Leżajsk (the Żywiec Group), Cefarm Rzeszów (the Orfe Group).

The Krosno Group was established after a merger of a few glass works, which created the largest and the most comprehensive manufacturer of glass products in Poland and one of the more important manufacturers in Europe.
KROSNO SA is a company of long-standing tradition and experience: established in 1923 in Krosno, for years it has been manufacturing industrial sodium glass and employs almost 3,500 people. Its trade mark is traditional hand-made glass, although mechanically-formed table glass plays a significant role in its offer. Over 90% of hand-made products and about 60% of mechanical products are exported to 60 countries worldwide. KROSNO SA Glass Works have their own designing center, where authors create their collection, setting trends in industrial design.
TARNÓW SA Industrial Glass Works has been forming industrial glass, mechanically and by hand, for 70 years. Krosglass SA produces industrial articles (glass fibre from E-type glass in the form of mats, texture and strand rovings, chopped strands, silk glass and roving cloth), widely used in shipyard, automotive and construction industries.
