Metro Group, the biggest trade company in Poland, uses mySAP HR

BCC has finished one of the biggest HR projects in Poland: implementing SAP in human resources management in Metro Group units, e.g. in the chains of real,- hypermarkets and Praktiker construction supermarkets.

The project covered more than 16,000 employees in over 80 locations. The first chain to start mySAP HR before that was Makro (implementation in 2001-2002, carried out also by BCC). Since January mySAP HR has been also used by real,-, Praktiker, and other Metro group units, like MAM METRO Group Asset Management Polska, MGA METRO Group Advertising Polska, MGI METRO Group Information Technology Polska, MGB METRO Group Buying Polska, MGL METRO Group Logistics Polska.

The implementation project used the so-called Common Template, a corporate model of Metro Group, which includes best practices in human resources management. Norbert Brandt, HR director in Praktiker Polska and mySAP HR project manager for the chains Real and Praktiker said: ‘In an organization of such a dispersed structure, which employs so many people, the efficiency of HR management has a great impact on overall company’s efficiency. The implementation helped us transfer to Poland the best experience of our corporation. We unified personnel and payroll management standards in all units. The fact that management needs of the Polish units were taken into account and that the knowledge of mySAP HR was transferred by BCC, made us feel the real owners of this solution’.

Implementation works in real,- and Praktiker, which started in June 2004, involved 19 Metro employees and 7 BCC consultants. The project scope was personnel administration, time management and its evaluation and payroll settlement. Including Makro, Metro group has now more than 200 mySAP HR users.

Norbert Brandt comments: ‘Due to the scale and complicity of the operation the project was a big challenge both for us and BCC consultants. Preparing a solution for work time planning was challenging, as this was done in a few dozens of outlets scattered in all the country. It is also worth mentioning that mySAP HR solution is a common system for many Metro Group units and during the implementation it was integrated with SAP financial and accounting systems used in particular chains. By uniting employees’ commitment with experience and knowledge of BCC team, we have succeeded in obtaining an efficient HR system which meets our needs and high demands’.

Bartłomiej Buszczak, BCC consulting director, points out: ‘BCC specialists’ experience from other complicated mySAP HR projects, such as this in Orkla Press, proved to be very useful in Metro. We are glad that Metro Group, the biggest trade company in Poland, joined the group of dozens of BCC clients using the best IT solutions that support HR management.’
