The companies BCC, IMG and SAP have informed about a successful migration of an ERP solution to SAP R/3 Enterprise system in the company Polkomtel S.A, an operator of Plus GSM mobile. The new version of the system allows to widen the functionality and flexibility of ERP solutions used by Polkomtel S.A. In terms of the project scale, the scope of work and the number of people involved, it was the biggest project of its type in Poland.
Apart from the employees of the SAP system department in Polkomtel, the project involved consultants from three companies: SAP Polska, BCC and IMG Polska. The scope of works covered all SAP functionalities used by Polkomtel (among them finance, logistics, HR, business trip management, treasury), and other SAP systems integrated with SAP R/3 (data warehouse, corporate portal, customer relations management, e-supply, strategic enterprise management) and technical functionalities like data archiving systems and interfaces that unite SAP with external applications.
Marek Tokarski, SAP system department director in Polkomtel, said: ‘The upgrade of the SAP system has been our most important IT project this year. We had been preparing it very carefully, as it concerned the system critical for company’s operations. The changes, executed simultaneously in many functionalities, had to be closely coordinated. The conversion covered one of the biggest data bases used by ERP systems in Poland and the timetable was very tight. The project was planned on a huge scale; it covered 1,600 SAP users, some hundreds business processes and dozens of locations in Poland. We could not afford the slightest delay or even momentary lack of access to the system for the users. A particular challenge was appropriate communication about such a big-scale change. The project success is the success of our employess involved in it as well as the cooperating consultants from BCC, IMG and SAP, whose competences and help were an invaluable support for us’.
During the upgrade Polkomtel S.A. provided the users with e-training in some hundreds of processes covered by SAP systems. It was the first in Poland use of SAP Tutor solution on such a big scale. The solution is part of e-learning SAP solution. This helped to shorten training processes dramatically and create for all the system users a library of the updated training materials in an electronic form.
